My Dinner Date, Mr. President by Camryn - October 2017 Scholarship Essay

The seventh president of the United States was Andrew Jackson, who is also the U.S. president I would like to have dinner with. I would have dinner with him because he appealed to the common man and was a very successful president, bringing about the era of good feelings and was the only president to completely pay off national debt. Pertaining to this amazing feat, I would ask him how he payed of the national debt. After showing him the situation we are in with our national debt, I would ask for advice and then use that to contact our government and try to help our national debt decrease. I would ask him how he became such a successful man, but would also ask him about the Indian Removal Act, which I do not personally approve of. I would tell him what has happened to the Native Americans of today, living on small reservations with high addiction and suicide rates, and ask him would he do anything differently. Overall, I would have dinner with Andrew Jackson because he was a unique, overall successful president, that achieved many of his own personal goals, which I can admire and aspire to do myself.
