Volunteering at the Cincinnati Museum Center by Cameron - May 2018 Scholarship Essay
A volunteer experience that I have had is through Cincinnati Museum Center's Youth Program. The Youth Program is a yearlong volunteer program that I've been a member of for the past two years. Through the program, I've learned many different things about artifacts at the Cincinnati Art Museum, the numerous exhibits, and I'm able to interact with the visitors of the museum with guided tours and sharing my knowledge of the artifacts and exhibits.
I've also participated in many programs within the Youth Program at the Cincinnati Museum Center. I've been on 3 college tours all across the US including in California, Washington DC, and many other cities. We've toured more than 15 colleges and universities, learning about the many programs and opportunities available for me. I've been able to experience college life and atmospheres that I would never have been able to without the Youth Programs.
This year, I have expanded my boundaries by joining the Youth Advisory Council, better known as YAC at with the Youth Programs. As a member of YAC, I’m able to help plan events for the Youth Program members, such as college tours, overnight programs, and volunteer opportunities outside of the Cincinnati Museum Center. Being a volunteer at the Cincinnati Museum Center has taught me many things. I've learned how to be more outspoken, how to become a leader as well as an excellent follower, I've learned independence and the advantages of experiencing things outside of my normal comfort zone. I’ve also learned to appreciate traveling and how grand the world can actually be when I leave the comfort of home and explore. My vision of my future has become much clearer as a volunteer with Cincinnati Museum Center and I’m looking forward to following my dreams of becoming an Engineer.
