Kentucky by Cameron - October 2016 Scholarship Essay
In most cases, education is taken for granted. It is seen as a task or burden rather than a opportunity to succeed. Rarely do you find a student who is truly thankful for their chance to learn. There are many contributing factors to the attitudes of young learners. Although, there is one major factor that can change everything: the instructor. A teacher who loves their job and is truly passionate about their students and their individual success and struggles can effect so much in a student's educational experience.
As a junior in highschool, I was enrolled in a Spanish III course. Going into the class I considered it another elective credit that I was required to have in order to graduate. Little did I know that I would come across an educator that would change my life. My teacher was super outgoing and bubbly, but she was so much more than a smiling face I encountered everyday. Through our 175 days of school, she taught me so much more than a foreign language. She taught me how stay positive through many trying situations. She taught me how passion and geniality could effect so much.
If I could choose one academic subject to teach, it would be Spanish because through a foreign language course you are presented with so many opportunities. By learning a foreign language the doors of opportunity continue to open in numerous career paths. Also, the study of a foreign language can give you a chance to travel to different parts of the world. This can create diversity within this learner and set them apart from other students.
All in all, no matter what subject I would teach, through my attitude and passion I could show students there is so much more to grasp than what is in the course curriculum.
