Hands On Over Classroom Anyday Of The Week by Camden - September 2024 Scholarship Essay

What is your favorite non-traditional way to learn and what are you currently learning outside of school? I am currently an intern in the physical therapy department. I am in my second year there and love every second. I enjoy helping with treatments, dry needling, massaging, cupping, and more. I have learned so much throughout this process. I have always been huge on learning this way. I grew up on a farm. This has helped me to be a hands-on learner. I have learned about engines. The best way to learn is to take it apart and put it back together. I prefer this method to every style of learning. Lots of times in classrooms I get bored. It can be very hard to stay focused and on task. I think this same thing happens to many others. I often see other students drifting off and getting bored. Learning hands-on allows me to stay more focused while understanding the craft. Students learn so much better on the job than anything else. It allows me to see firsthand what happens every day. I get to talk and interact with patients. There is no problem the same and it can be challenging to solve. I have also learned social skills along the way. I work with patients from age 8 to 90. This wide age range keeps me on my toes and allows me to socialize with all generations of people.
