Dedication by Calista - December 2021 Scholarship Essay

The trait that I believe best describes a leader is dedication. What would anyone be able to accomplish without it? Without dedication there can be no success through progress, improvement, or ability to lead others. Within my own experience with leadership as my Future Farmers of America (FFA) school chapter officer, I found that if I was not able to put in the necessary time and effort I would not notice any improvement to the school’s program.
At my school, it is a requirement for FFA officers to actively participate in events and present new ideas. Without a dedication to the agricultural program, planning events, and encouraging student involvement, it becomes much more difficult to be taken seriously as a leader.
I have also seen dedication and leadership in other aspects of my life, through my mentor, who works for The City of San Antonio. She oversees many departments within the government and without her passion for her work, much less would be accomplished.
Overall, I feel that dedication is truly the best trait a good leader can have. Even if someone may be highly skilled in speaking or smart in other personality aspects, if they are not continually committed to the department or organization they are involved in, they will not be able to accomplish their purpose.
