Drive by Calieen - September 2014 Scholarship Essay
Throughout life many are led to believe that they can do anything that they put their minds to. From the start of kindergarden it is forced into our heads that the perfect image of life is a successful job, big house, and an expensive car. This inviting image is some of our only goals for the future. Though Americans are some of the most determined citizens with an inspirational work ethic a lot of us don't think much about what it takes to get where we all strive to be.
College is no doubt the stepping stone to a life time of success. Families drill into the heads of their younger relatives and children that college creates opportunity. Well, I am here to say that I am a firm believer in the fact that college is the way to go for accomplishment, but it is not a place to go if you only want to take the easy way out. The way you know the difference in what you want out of college is drive.
Having drive doesn't mean going to college because your parents want you to be a lawyer, and you just want to party. Drive also isn't falling asleep halfway through a lesson because your professor does not talk about things that interest you. Drive is having the passion enough to learn the things you wouldn't usually want to learn about in your spare time. Its being determined to have that perfect lifestyle you have always dreamed of since kindergarden and pushing your way through those days when you feel like you want to give up. Lastly, drive is remembering that the average job isn't for you. It's thinking back to that promise you made to yourself to not be the could have been or should have been. Drive is focus on your future. Drive is the most important skill to have before you get to college because it will keep you there.
