#MyPurpose by Caleb - April 2018 Scholarship Essay

Education is the backbone to my American Dream. It offers an avenue to conform visions into realities and establish a purpose in life. These aspirations wouldn’t be attainable without higher education and the privileges it presents. Not only does education propel my purpose in life, it offers a platform to stand up against those that believe it’s ethical to judge others based on socioeconomic and cultural differences.

For many, education is a way to jump the corporate ladder and accumulate material assets. For me, it’s a route toward having greater impacts on others and unlocking my purpose in life. This purpose is to help others as a clinical pharmacist, especially those with less resources. As a healthcare professional I can work in the front line of medicine and provide a personable impact. I’m fully convicted I was born to do more than merely offer medical advice but also deliver an all-inclusive product that has the potential to drastically change lives for the better.

The beauty of our educational system is that it’s devoid of prejudices concerning one’s socioeconomic level or cultural roots. This principle taught me that the heart of an individual is what matters most and not their situational circumstances. Throughout my life, I’ve battled other’s beliefs regarding my potential because of an under-served background. Unfortunately, after consistently being reminded of these socioeconomic shortcomings I started to question my own self-worth. It wasn’t until higher education that I realized my potential wasn’t dependent on a situational circumstance but rather work ethic and perseverance to overcome any obstacle. Words cannot express my gratitude concerning the impact education has had on my life.

Education means the world to me. Without this freedom, I couldn’t shape my own path and would be forced to give up the American Dream. This would entail others choosing my purpose in life and an end to the pursuit of happiness. I know this to be true because it was my reality before education changed my life forever.
