Finding My True Passion by Caitlyn - May 2022 Scholarship Essay

When I was 10 I was diagnosed with Dyslexia which made it extremely difficult to learn both English and Spanish. With the support of family and friends, I was able to excel in my studies and become the student I am today. One family friend had helped me read in both English and Spanish as well as taught me learning techniques or study tools I use to this day. She has made an impact on who I am and what I aspire to be. In 4th grade, she had been diagnosed with Stomach Cancer, and as it got worse it was hard to see her in pain but I knew I wanted to help people with pain management. Which has led me to anesthesiology. Knowing that I am reliving someone's pain and relieving pressure off of their loved ones is just unexplainable. I think I will be successful in this path because I am passionate about helping people and compassionate towards everybody I meet. Many people would say that someone with a learning disability such as dyslexia wouldn't be able to become a doctor due to the amount of schooling it takes, but with the support and tool, I have now I know I will be able to get through medical school. With this being said I know it won't be easy but I am willing to put in the work and effort to make my dream career a reality.
