President's Dinner by Caitlin - October 2017 Scholarship Essay

If given the opportunity to it down for dinner with one U.S. President, it would have to be Franklin D. Roosevelt. FDR was one of the most influential presidents, and has become a staple of leadership.
Within our country today, there is so much division speaking in terms of politics. It is almost as if we are moving backwards instead of forwards. I would like to chat with FDR about how he would handle the situation of modern day America, given that he was a respected leader from both democrats and republicans. That is the kind of leadership that is needed in today’s society, so personally I would ask how I would be able to become such a leader. How would the individual be able to make an impact on the larger group as a whole?
FDR was known for his fireside chats, where he would talk on the radio about what is going on within the world and his presidency. Because of this he is listed as a great communicator. I would love to see his opinion on how modern communication has evolved, and what he would do to tighten the division between republicans and democrats.
FDR’s is most known for his New Deal, which pulled us out of The Great Depression. I would love to hear first-hand of what the Great Depression was like, and how he came to the decision that the New Deal was best suited for our nation. He created jobs and almost ended poverty. He created hope where there was none. Going off of that, I would love to have his input about the distribution of wealth in America today. What would his thoughts be on how the lower class is forced to live, and what would his economic solution be to our problem?
