A Future Shaped by Knowledge by Caidyn - April 2018 Scholarship Essay

If there was one hashtag to describe what education means to me, it would be #featuresforthefuture. When I saw this prompt, I took time to reflect on what education does and what it means. I thought about how education furthers thought and helps people create. My mind also went to how students learn about the past in efforts to make changes to the future, which is where I concluded that education is to overall prepare for the future.
While considering the meaning of education, it is important to look at what education does. Education sets up job opportunities, provides information for constructive debates, new solutions to pestering problems, as well as many other situations where education comes in handy. All of this has one thing in common, the future. The future is shaped by new thought or innovation. All of this comes from what people have learned. Without this knowledge, there would be no progression into the future. A key feature of the future is knowledge, and as commonly known, knowledge is power. A power to progress, a power to change, a power to lead into a new era.
Not only does education set up the future, but people can take what they learned about the past to apply to the future. In my years of learning, I noticed a pattern of history repeating itself. By learning about the past, we can effectively progress in the future, or if a common situation does arise, the educated masses can find another solution to a previous problem. #featuresforthefuture means that what we learn today can be taken to form a better tomorrow, something I passionately believe education is all about.
