A Bright Future by Cai - June 2013 Scholarship Essay

College has transformed my future by giving me a purpose and allowing me to explore my personality, passions and strengths to determine what career I want to pursue. It has provided me with a chance to find a perfect outlet with which to achieve my long-term goal of building a career around helping children. While I do not currently know what career this journey will lead me to, my goal is to never lose sight of my dreams and ambitions. Being undeclared has allowed me to search different avenues until I find a career that best suits my abilities and I can take the extra steps toward creating a future completely unique to my character. As of now, the classes I have taken have led me towards pursuing a degree in Human Development and a potential career as a Child Life Specialist.
College has also allowed me to gain a sense of independence and focus on what I want to achieve while making choices that I can look back on in future years with a sense of pride. While I am still unsure of what exact career path lies ahead of me, I definitely know that I want to be a Human Development major with a focus on early childhood development. College has given me the confidence to never let someone else’s criticism of my choices get me down. Although I have been discouraged from pursuing a degree that would allow me to work with children, as cliché as it sounds, college has taught me to dream big and not let people stand in my way. Along with the knowledge I’ve gained through my college experience, I feel I have been completely transformed into a more confident individual intent on helping children in any way I can.
