New Year's Resolution: Time Management by Cady - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

The transition between high school and college is not the easiest thing for teens to handle. There is no more being told and constantly reminded that our homework is due, or there is a test in two weeks. The professors are not going to hold our hands and help us get that easy A like our teachers did in high school. For once in our life we have to depend on ourselves and have to be faced with many choices. My New Year’s resolution is to develop better time management skills.
Knowing I am going to be on my own in a few months with no one to nag me about homework or studying, I need to learn how to discipline myself and manage my time to the best of my ability. My entire life I have played sports and have spent my entire high school career playing sports in the fall and spring. During sports season I learned how to manage my time and spend my free time very wisely. Come this fall I will be all by myself, learning and making mistakes like every human. College is something that almost every little kid talks about doing in their future and it is my goal not to mess that dream up, since my future depends on it. I will be going to college to major in biochemistry, which I know is a very rigorous subject. I will have to save time for these studies to be able to excel and put my best foot forward. Along with my major there are other classes I am required to take, but I need prioritize wants from necessities.
Although I need to develop these time management skills to have a successful college career, I want to have an enjoyable time. Getting ahead on work and not procrastinating will allow me to be outgoing and to have fun with friends I make. Starting to make better use out of my time during these last few months of high school will make the transition from high school work to college work much easier.
