Unconventional Schooling by Bryson - January 2020 Scholarship Essay
Technology has positively impacted my classroom experience by giving me the opportunity to branch out from conventional types of learning to online learning where I move at my own pace. I am able to work at a speed I am comfortable with instead of at a pace that a teacher sets. Since all of my work is online I was able to complete more courses at a faster rate than I would have been able to at conventional schools and sped up my process to graduating and will be graduating much earlier than I was supposed to.
By taking my learning online, I was able to get more involved with the lesson by replaying concepts I didn’t understand the first time and breeze through the ones I did without having to wait for my teacher to give a test 2 weeks after introducing it. By getting in my own pace, I was able to graduate early because I had failed a year due to my lack of motivation at the time. I completely rebounded with the use of edgenuity for my junior and senior years. I am grateful at the opportunity to use strictly online learning because I had always wanted to try it because I knew I would not only enjoy it, but excel at it. Since coming to the school I have improved in terms of motivation as well as getting ahead and finishing early with my courses. I am set to graduate in January if I keep working at the same speed, which I plan on doing.
So when asking how has technology impacted my learning experience, I will answer with greatly and in every aspect. Taking things online is a recommendation I give to all students to at least try to see if it works for them. By branching out and trying new things is how you find what you are good at and enjoy doing.
