What Does Education Mean To You? by Bryndall - July 2019 Scholarship Essay
In 2016, statistics reported that 69.7% of high school students attend college the proceeding fall after graduation. However, many students tend to drop out of college before beginning their sophomore year. Many factors come into play when trying to depict the reason for this outcome. Although, I believe it truly comes down to if the student develops a passion for education or not.
As I am heading into my senior year of high school, it leads me to reminisce on my previous years of schooling. Looking all the way back to kindergarten, I see that my parents never had to force or beg for me to try in school. It is like it was instilled in me to want to succeed. I have always known that education is the key to success. Therefore, over time, I have developed an immense passion and love for education.
Throughout the years, I have come to realize that good things do not just happen, but I have to work extremely hard to make my dreams come true. I have had exceptional role models to look up to in my life. My parents have taught me so much, but I admire most their work ethic. My older sister became the first person in my family to graduate college. I am thankful for her setting an example and showing it is possible. My brother is currently a senior at the University of North Alabama. I am grateful for his tips for me and helping me become prepared for college. I am very blessed to have an amazing family and support system.
My passion for education was truly established when I began to grow up and understand how life works. Neither of my parents went to college, and I now realize just how hard they had to work to create the life we live. We are definitely not classified as wealthy, but my parents have always supplied me with everything I need. Although, I have seen the financial stress they have went through sometimes. This led to my passion for education. I see how important education is and how it can propel my future in the right direction.
In conclusion, I do not want to be a part of the drop out students. I have big plans to fulfill in the future through education. My dream is to become a pediatrician. I am on the right path as I am the valedictorian of my senior class. Through looking at my role models to hard work to my passion for education, I will accomplish my goals.
