Non-Traditional Learning Can be Life Changing by Bryn - September 2024 Scholarship Essay
I have always been a true believer in different types of learning, I think that each student has a different way of retaining information. In school, we mostly learn audibly. This can be hard for some students who need a visual or to be hands on. My classmates and I all show a lot of diversity in the classroom. I observe some of my peers thriving in a lab assignment, while others excel at writing essays. Maybe the difference in our learning styles come from our experiences growing up.
While school has taught me a lot, I have also learned a ton through my life outside of school. I have found that the most useful way of learning for me personally is repetition. I grew up around farm equipment and animals on my family farm. The way I learned to do things was by observing, then practicing. The more I do things the better I get at them. My dad and grandpa both being busy farmers, they did not have a lot of time to thoroughly teach me to do certain tasks. This taught me to be attentive and observative. This way of learning has helped me in my school work as well. The first time things are taught to me in school, I pay close attention so I only have to learn it once. After that, I practice repetitively. I am thankful that I grew up in a positive work environment that taught me a resourceful way of learning.
