A love for running by Bryn - November 2017 Scholarship Essay
My obsession with running started simple enough, it was the beginning of sophomore year, and wanted to let off some steam. So naturally went outside and started running laps around my house. The beating of my heart, the exhilaration, the desire to go faster and faster, that was the feeling that I fell in love with. Soon i was going out every day and just running some laps around my house. Eventually the days got shorter and shorter and the beginning of my run went from before sunset, to after twilight. I once loved going out in almost complete darkness and just running laps as long as i can (although it's safe to say that i was barely getting a one mile run).
The first time i heard about cross country as a sport would have been a huge negative for most people, it seems for some reason there was a cross country meet at 11pm. After researching further i realized that this was the perfect sport for me.
About one year later i found myself at the first cross country practice, thinking that it would be a breeze. How wrong I was. The first day was simply a one mile run, and that felt like one of the hardest runs of my life. The next day was a two mile run, or in simpler terms extreme pain. But i persevered and eventually things became much easier. At this point in my running career i have over 20 5ks under my belt, and have made great connections with runners from other schools.
It is that spirit of perseverance and of comradery that has carried over to every other aspect in my life. Although i have ran my last cross country race, i feel that my new found determination wont be going anywhere.
