Find Your Voice by Bryanna - August 2017 Scholarship Essay
Growing up, I was taught that whatever I wanted to be I could be it. When I was five it was a princess, when I was ten I wanted to be a cop, and now it is a fashion photographer. If I was to drop all that and become a college professor I would have to teach in the art field.
I used to be a shy girl that did not talk much to anyone. Once I began taking art classes I broke free from my shell, and I become the woman I am today. Art helped me find my voice, and helped me to realize my passion is in this field as a photographer. I began to notice that my past was being shown through my photos.
I want to help people discover themselves and help them accomplish tasks they never thought was possible. Not only does art help with the creativeness of a person, but also their discipline. Being an art student takes hours of work and dedication. I want to see people shine through, and realize that with passion, time, and dedication that they can truly be and do anything they set their minds to. I want to be an example to people, and let them know its ok to have emotions. It is okay, and healthy, to show their emotions and past through their own art work. It is not only therapeutic, but also helps connect the artist and the viewer on a level so much larger than just looking at a piece of work.
I would want to be the type of professor where in 10 years time they look back and say that I really helped them realize their potential and goals in life.
