Last Piece by Bryana - April 2018 Scholarship Essay
After nearly twenty grueling years at my desk, the final section slowly came together. With the help of my loved ones and other people, we completed a picture perfect puzzle: me.
My parents and immediate family constructed the borders and a majority of my inner pieces. My extended family and friends built a large portion of the middle. My teachers, mentors, and acquaintances formed a good chunk as well. The final section was assembled by my education.
Once the puzzle was complete, I admired the reflection of my portrait illustrated before me and contemplated the time and dedication spent on this puzzle. Those last pieces unlocked new experiences.
If it wasn’t for my education and the loving guidance of my family and friends, I may have never pushed myself to graciously lose a spelling bee, squeamishly dissect a sheep’s eye, judiciously win a mock trial, gain some college credit in high school, or open my eyes and mind to new opinions and literary genres.
My education helps me make wise decisions, S.M.A.R.T. goals, and relate to people from different backgrounds over a variety of interests.
Education is part of the reason why I am the way I am today. Education is the last piece to my fulfilling and thrilling life.
