What College Means For Me by Bryana - June 2013 Scholarship Essay
For most people, attending college is already a set plan for them by their parents once they are born. For others, it is a game of chance. What are the chances I'll get into college or even have enough money for college? With the help of scholarships, students like me are able to attend college and further their education so that they can be an attribute to society in the future. My family is one that is not like others. My father's side is from Germany while my mother's side is from Puerto Rico. Both sides have not had the opportunity to a full educational expierence like I hope to have. My parents have always been very supportive of every goal I've ever hoped to pursue such as my ever-changing "passions" of becoming a chef and a physical therapist. Nothing would make me happier than attending college and showing my parents that just because my family's past wasn't the brightest, I still have the chance to recieve a higher education and make my family proud of my accomplishments. My father always jokes about me becoming a doctor or a lawyer so that I can take care of him in the future but that might actually become a reality if I am able to put myself through that much schooling. My family means more to me than anything and if I was able to become that prestigious in life, I know I'd make them as proud as possible and even set an example for the family I hope to have in the future. Attending college not only would be an amazing accomplishment for my family, but a life-changing blessing for myself. In college, I plan to learn more than I could ever imagine but also obtain life-long friends. College is a time to mature into the person that you will be for the rest of your life and with a new education and new friends, my future will be unbelieveable.
