My mother once said “Not a thing in this world, is more important than you but just like a puzzle some people need more glue. Since the day you were born you’ve never needed any help from holding your own bottle, to taking your first step. Nobody needed to hold your hand ,or applaud you for your success, you’ve always done it yourself.” and as these very words ring loudly in my ear, I have no shame in saying without my dream team; mother and grandfather, I wouldn’t be here.
From the very beginning, my mother has always been my biggest cheerleader and my greatest advocate. May it be losing sleep to get me to a charter school across town or joining the PTA to ensure I have an exceptional education, no sacrifice has been too great for my mother. Despite being a mother of four children, she always made time to assist with homework and straighten me out if I started slacking!
With little time to herself, my mother remained an avid reader. She always encouraged me to seek knowledge outside of the classroom and to learn from the lessons I come up against. Her monumental strides have never gone unnoticed, they’ve in turn served as my motivation to never stop striving. She’s my inner voice that gets me through every test and talks me off every ledge. There’s not a gift in this world that can make up for every door she’s opened or for every barrier she’s broken.
Being raised by a single mother meant that money was always tight in my house. There was always the “ how am I going to pay for this cloud” looming around and had it not been for my grandfather’s financial support, college would’ve never been an option for me. As a product of divorce, he always made sure I never felt the absence of my father. He pushed me beyond measure, challenged me to reach my potential and laid the groundwork for me to become a successful young woman. Much like my mother, he’s never allowed my circumstances to hinder me. May It be covering my traveling expenses to different universities or paying for my AP exams, he’s never let me go without.
With the influence of such strong individuals, there is little question as to why I have made a plan to accomplish great things.
