Outside the Norm by Brooklyn - October 2018 Scholarship Essay

For many, thinking outside the box means many different things. The main meaning of thinking outside the box is to think broader or to see the bigger picture. However, even when people think “outside the box”, people tend to get the same answer. I think that one has to think broader. I believe that thinking outside the box can be applied to everyday life. For example, I am a Senior in High School. As seniors are thinking of career pathways, one might think of a doctor, teacher, or business person. To think outside the box, someone might want to be a Zoologist or an accountant. However, I believe that it doesn't stop there. I believe in thinking about what nobody else is.
As my last year of high school is coming to a close, I am constantly being asked about what I want to do in the future. My average answer is a teacher. My (what most would call) “outside the box” answer would be an Elementary School Guidance Counselor. But what if I didn't want to do a normal job?
For many years, I have been a big pro wrestling fan. I have done research and found out that the industry fits my personality pretty well. I love traveling, I like to exercise and I like to perform. Is pro wrestling the most popular thing to do? No. However, it is a job that is not in most people's minds. For that reason, being a pro wrestler is my example of thinking outside the box.
