Rise and Shine! by Brooke - January 2019 Scholarship Essay
The smell of fresh coffee brewing, the sound of sweet birds chirping, and the sight of a beautiful sunrise are only a few reasons as to why I prefer the mornings over the nights. As an early riser, I am able to enjoy the simplest things in life without the distractions of others. For me, the morning is a time where I am able to enjoy and appreciate my life without being rushed into the start of my day. Waking up before the crack of dawn allows me to have an extremely productive day. Where I live, it is common for people to stay asleep until the night turns into day and the sun rises. Waking up before the majority of people in my community gives me the opportunity to achieve my everyday tasks such as exercising, reading the Bible, and household chores without others pressing different tasks upon me. As a morning person, I can peacefully complete my duties while taking delight in my life.
It is more advantageous to be an early riser rather than a night owl for many reasons. Many scientific experiments have been done on the human body regarding chronotypes - what time a human is active. I am prone to many more health benefits as a morning person because humans are supposed to be awake when the sun is up rather than down. Morning people are more likely to be thinner than night people because light exposure lowers body mass indexes. It is also proven that humans who wake up before the hour of seven AM are happier. Exposure to morning light is proven to boost energy, cheerfulness, and alertness, making for a genuinely happy person. Morning people are also considered better students whether they are in high school or college. Cognitive ability and motivation are constantly on a rise in an early riser’s body, which allows them to triumph. All of these health benefits, plus more, allow morning people to be more productive throughout their days, weeks, years, and lives. Overall, morning people are healthier and more productive than night owls for innumerable reasons.
