3 steps to success by Brooke - December 2017 Scholarship Essay
Pulse is racing, palms sweating, and stomach has million's of butterflies. Why do you feel this way? Once again you have failed to start the school project in an organized time managed way and it is the night before the deadline. Again. I think we have all felt this way one time or another. This might even be how you feel everytime a school project is due. I think feeling this way boils down to one problem you don't have a plan or a strategy on how to complete the project. I have found with doing projects I personally don't like to just use one strategy but actually to use multiple ones. In order to accomplish an A+ project, there are a few strategies you need to take. They are what I like to call the less is more strategy, "time is the of the essence" strategy, and the utilize resources strategy. These three strategies are sure to guarantee a great project and a pretty great time while doing a school project.
The less is more strategy is a great plan to use when you create a school project and is something to always keep in mind. This strategy is all about simplicity. When doing a project you just want to keep your main ideas and important parts of the project in a powerpoint, essay, posterboard etc.. Whatever it may be you don't want to ramble on with unimportant issues or ideas that might lose the interest of your audience. For example when giving a powerpoint presentation for a project you want to have only a couple words on each slide so that you keep the audience engaged and also so that you can show you know what you are talking about without having to just read off a slide. When you keep thing's simple it keeps you focused, your audience engaged, and your project on task.
The next strategy "time is of the essence" is a very important strategy to remember and really will help with the stress of your project. This strategy is all about managing your time and not leaving everything you need to get done for the end. When doing a project it is so important to start at least a week in advance. What this does is give you time to get started on the material and goal's of the project so if you run into anything confusing or challenging you have time to ask the teacher for further explanation or help on a concept. This strategy also helps for your work to be smooth sailing as you have plenty of time to work on each part and get the work done to perfection. This may be the most important strategy of the three.
The final strategy is utilizing your resources. This may be one that people don't think about as much or view as important, but it is very helpful. This strategy is all about the finishing touches to success with your project. Utilizing your resources can be as simple as having a parent review your work and give you pointers. It could also be using the nearest library for research or utilizing any printer's, paper, or computer's they may have to get the project done. Another great resource is utilizing writing workshop's or tutor's you may have at your school or a learning center nearby that can look over your project to see if you met all the requirements and/or to see if they have any suggestions of things to improve.
These are the three steps for success when it comes to a school project. If you can remember these and apply them to your work you are sure to stress less and get a good grade. It may take hard work but nothing successful came easy. So always remember less is more, "time is of the essence," and utilize resources.
