Creativity and Imagination is My Key by Brittney - December 2015 Scholarship Essay

My name is Brittney Cox, I am a senior here at the University of Texas at El Paso and I am expected to graduate in December of 2016 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in Drawing, minoring in Ceramics and Museum Studies. Once I’ve attained my first degree I will go on to accomplish getting my Masters in Library Sciences at Texas Women’s University.

My plan is to work in a county or school library, assisting the community in educating and entertaining themselves in a safe environment. I, myself, enjoy reading and branching out into the unlimited world of imagination. Knowing that patrons are engaged in a mentally challenging, yet, beneficial activity has always inspired me to keep doing the same. It’s always welcoming when you’re able to share your love for a hobby with others.

I would also like to either open up my own community art organization or assist at one to help improve their art program, such as The Y.M.C.A. I would like to offer classes that teach various age groups about different art techniques and styles in a hands-on environment. These courses would enable participants to acquire the skills it takes to work with many different mediums including paints, clays, inks, etc. The main objective of this endeavor would not exactly teach them these skills - that’s a bonus; the point would be to enable the students to have fun and create things that they imagine, make original artwork, and explore designing. The courses would culminate in a display at the local art gallery or museum for their families, friends, and community to visit and praise.

I could reasonably accomplish all of these things and more, using all the knowledge and skills I have obtained here at UTEP. It is my sincere commitment and desire to achieve my life goals and hopefully inspire others along the way to reach their goals. Financial support provided through your scholarship would greatly benefit me in my academic endeavors as a graduating senior.

I genuinely thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Brittney C. Cox
