Study Habits by Brittney - May 2016 Scholarship Essay
Throughout my 4 years of high school l have acquired quite a few study habits. While, it is important to always study before exams, daily activities and school work can be so overwhelming that you end up cramming for exams. However, that is not a valid excuse. The most helpful study method for me during final exams is to review previous tests and quizzes.
During the school year all teachers give tests and quizzes. These tests and quizzes are specifically meant to assess your knowledge of the information well in advance to the final exam. Often times some of the exact material that is on a test or quiz is used in the same fashion as on a final exam.
When the teacher returns the test or quiz back, looking over the questions and answers has definitely helped me to get a better understanding of the material and why I might have gotten some answers wrong. This is a great method because it is something that can be done all year-round and the tests and quizzes are intended to assist you in understanding the material well in advance to final exams. This method makes taking final exams less overwhelming because it reduces the need to cram and definitely gives you an idea about what to expect on the final exam.
Also, a great deal of teachers and professors are willing to assist students in studying and preparing for final exams. Therefore, even if a teacher or professor does not specifically return a test or quiz, he or she might not have an issue with allowing you to look over it in preparation for final exams. It is imperative to remember that teachers and professors are always in a position to assist students and, for the most part, willing to give any aid they possibly can. However, it is the responsibility of the student to seek out the aid of teachers and professors to prepare for such large exams. While reviewing previous tests and quizzes given throughout the school year is not the only method for studying for final exams, I find it the most effective. Therefore, I view such assessments as great studying preparation for final exams and appreciate that they are given periodically so I do well on final exams and avoid unnecessary cramming the night before.
