The road is tough, but so am I by Brittley - October 2019 Scholarship Essay
The person in my life that has inspired me academically is my father. Throughout my life I have been able to witness what he has done for my family despite working in a considerably low-income job. Regardless of the amount of money he earns, he does what he must in order to provide for everyone in my family. He puts himself first for the sake of others and lends a helping hand when he can. Even though he faces many hardships, he keeps going and because of that I refuse to let anything get in the way of my academic success. I understand that my dad wasn’t able to get a well-paying job due to his education but even so I consider him to be successful.
However, this is something that my dad does not want me to go through so he pushes me to challenge myself and do the best I can in order to not have to go down the path that he had to go through in order to get as far as he did in life. I know that in order to have a life that is fairly well I must do my best now so that in the future I can be happy of my success. I push myself to be the way I am because I know that if I don't, then I will have to go through multiple obstacles unless I tackle my academics head on from now until I am done with all the education that I want to receive.
Much like my father who had gone through some rough patches, there were times when I felt like giving up just because I had started to go through some myself. There was a time when one of my classes led me to struggle so much that I had begun to fail it. My mother was very unhappy with this and let her wrath be shown to its full extent. On the other hand, my father lent me a supporting hand and trusted that I was capable of bringing myself up. He had faith in me, unlike my mother and because of that I was able to pass the class in the end. Had it not been for my father then I wouldn’t be having much academic success, but he was there when no one else was.
Where my father stands is what pushes me to do well in school despite the circumstances. His ongoing support and faith in me will allow me to continue down the road of life, even with all the many more hardships I will have to stand up against.
