The Path of Growth by Brittley - September 2019 Scholarship Essay
If I had the opportunity to create a high school extracurricular activity it would revolve around gardening.
To start off, each individual student will be given a small segment of land where they will be free to grow whatever is desired. However, it will be somewhat limited because trees will not be allowed due to them being too large. Students will mainly be working independently as they tend to their own small segment of a garden and ensure that everything is growing accordingly.
As students learn how to grow such things, they will also be learning about patience and dedication. One must have patience when growing anything as it takes time. One will also learn that through their dedication of tending their small garden, the actions they take throughout the whole process is what will lead them to find success. That will be shown through the way their garden turns out at the end of the year. Dedication also comes along with hard work as a garden cannot show its full potential if someone doesn't bother to put in the necessary effort to grow anything. .
This is the type of extracurricular activity I’d chose because it would be a great way for students to receive a Part Skills and Fitness credit for High School since their is physical work involved. Not only would it be beneficial for students, but it would be of use for donating whatever is being grown. This would help the community and people who are deprived of food and nutrition.
In short, such an extracurricular activity would be able to give students a creative outlet that would not only be beneficial to them but to aid the community as well.
