Education is what Makes Us by Brittany - July 2018 Scholarship Essay
So many people fail their classes due to poor teaching. The teacher does not put in their full effort which ends up being paid for by the students. They pay the price for someone not caring enough. There are students everywhere who get a grade that is worse than what they could really get. Say they receive C's in a class. This could be because the teacher is not putting in their full effort into the class, resulting in the students not receiving the full concept.
This kind of behavior is unacceptable. Especially for a teacher. They should know by themselves that they are there at the school to help us grow into the best human beings we can be. There is no way to do that if they do not give the information we need to know in order to pass the tests. These tests are what tell us if we are good enough for the next level. If we do not learn all the information we need to know about the subject then there is no way to pass the finals.
For the new teachers who are fresh out of college, it is expected that they do not do the best job since they are still learning how to teach. There are certain methods to use with different classes and the teacher has a job to seek out those methods. Some of them are even a little scared since they are in charge of a room full of teenagers and they have not found out how to get them to pay attention the whole time. This knowledge can make them a little shaky and maybe even cause them to mumble some of the speeches. The students would not have all the information because the new teacher is trying to get comfortable with the situation. This is excusable because it is new. Also the fact that the teachers know they did not do a very good job so they grade on a curve.
Now, besides the new teachers that are learning as they go, let us focus on the ones that know what to do. These are the teachers that have no excuse to let their students fall. They have gone through the experience and have learned what it takes to successfully teach a group of students. Many teachers are successful at what they do because they embrace the situation and make the best of it. They get the students to become more interested in the subject and make them feel comfortable asking questions when they are confused. They make sure that the students have the information they need and then move on to the next unit.
As for the unsuccessful teachers, they do what they want. They act the way they feel is right. This is not acceptable. They go too fast and when a student has a question, they ignore them. Or they rudely point out that they went over that in class and that the student should have been paying more attention. This does not help the student, it only makes them feel bad about themselves. The teacher also does not make sure that everyone has the information. So when the student has a question, they will not feel comfortable asking it and will lower their grade.
Schools need better teachers. The teachers that do not care if the students learn should not be teaching in the first place. As a runner for student body president, it is necessary to bring positive education to the school. This way, students will feel comfortable asking questions and feel confident in themselves. The confidence causes students to communicate more with their teachers which creates a positive atmosphere. The education that is positive, helpful, and secure is what the students need.
