#EducationIsWhatDefinesMe by Brittany - April 2018 Scholarship Essay
Education is an opportunity that is always used. Such as using math to find out how much groceries will be. Everyone takes classes to build their knowledge and become smarter as the days go by. They choose their classes that are optional to find out what they are interested in. As for the core classes, those are there to help us grow within ourselves by learning something new all the time. Out of many lessons that students learn about themselves, three of them are sleep, scheduling, and career planning.
The first lesson that students may learn about themselves is sleep. Everyone goes through struggles that cause them to consider quitting school and never working towards a job of which education is not required. People have to go through hard times in order to figure out how they are effected by education. When they have to study for a whole night and then are sleep deprived the next day, they learn about themselves that they need a certain number of hours to be able to function. For instance, some students only need six hours of sleep. On the other hand, other students need nine hours in order to properly pay attention and be involved in school.
The second lesson that students may learn about what they need is homework. When they have too much homework, they learn what schedule best works for them. They do this by organizing what assignments they have. Then they figure out what homework needs to be done first. This way, they will have less of a chance of falling behind in their classes. Once they know which assignment needs to be done first, they get all of the materials of which they need in order to properly complete the assignment. They also need to know how long each assignment will take in order for them to start and end their homework at appropriate times. If needed, schedule a study break as well. These breaks are most effective when the time has reached its middle point. A study break is a great time to get up, do some walking around the house, eat a snack and sit back down to get back to work. Some students believe that if they already have a lot of homework then they do not have time for a study break. It makes sense based on time, however, not giving the brain time to cool down is not good for mental health. A study break usually lasts for an estimate of 15 minutes. If a student's schedule is extra busy, make it a five minute break.
Another lesson that people learn is what they are interested in. This is the main lesson. The years in high school will have an impact on the student. The class or classes that they like the most will most likely be what they choose to go into for college. These classes are what they love to do. Therefore, there is a good chance that they will want to follow this path for a career. For instance, if a student loves algebra one, then there is a good chance that they will keep studying mathematics in college and later on have the opportunity to choose a mathematics related career.
There are many other lessons that students learn about themselves as they go through high school. Out if all the things people can learn, three of them are sleep, scheduling, and career planning. Education is what shapes our minds. We learn what makes us angry and what makes us happy. Students need to take a variety of classes that they are interested in in order to find out what makes them happy. They learn how many hours of sleep they need. They learn how to schedule their homework in order to avoid stress. Last but not least, they also learn what career plan best interests them based on which classes they were most interested in. These three lessons are very important to the path of education. These will help define students and guide them into choosing what is right for them.
