A New Extracurricular Activity: Video Games by Britany - September 2019 Scholarship Essay
High schools are full of classes from math to English, science, and history which are classes that are required for one to take. We have a choice of what we get to do after school though, from sports to clubs. We join these sports and clubs because this follows what we enjoy to do, but why don't we just play in our own time, why after school? We don't want to play by ourselves, we want to interact with others and talk about what we like. Video games are usually played at home, and people can interact with others through the internet. So, why not have video games as an extracurricular activity?
Personally, I would have enjoyed playing video games during my high school years. When I got home from school I would have no time to play video games or simply had no one to play with. Today, there are competitions for video games as there are competitions for sports. There can be video game competitions from school to school. This is what most students enjoy to do, so why not have it as an extracurricular activity. Most people dislike video games because they believe that this brings out bad behavior in students when this is not true. Video games can help anger one has to a decline, making people less prone to bad behavior.
High schools, middle schools, and other schools should be able to express how much they enjoy playing video games and be able to compete.
