To Give is to Love by Brisa - December 2015 Scholarship Essay

In the next ten years I plan on studying to be a Speech Language Pathologist and earn my degree. I plan to work with children who cannot speak correctly, or who have troubles with their motor skills and swallowing. I know a little boy who has these troubles and he goes to an SLP. His speech is significantly improving. I want to be able to make that kind of difference in a child's life. It would mean the world to me to help that child's parents find relief as well.
I know it can be a scary thing when someone can not help their child with something that seems to be so simple for everyone else, and I want to let those people know that it is not their fault nor is it their child's. It is sometimes naturally more difficult for some children and adults to speak fluently. I just want to help people gain confidence and live a happy life.
I also hope to be able to help my family who struggles financially. It would be amazing to give back to my family because they have always done whatever they could to help and support me. My parents literally bend over backwards for my sister, brothers and me. The only way I can do these things is if I earn my degree.
