Inspirational Everdeen by Brionna - April 2014 Scholarship Essay

“I am not pretty. I am not beautiful. I am as radiant as the sun.” Katniss Everdeen. It takes knowing the meaning of a quote as deep as this one to know the influence Katniss can have on an individual reading the hunger games trilogy. From her troubles with guys, to fighting 24 people trying to kill her, two different times in her young life, she has been one of the most powerful characters in today’s modern literature.

Between her home lover Gale who has been by her side their entire lives and Peeta, a new face in Katniss’ life, she has had many hard decisions on who she can go for, even she hasn’t decided which one she is truly in love with. Peeta was first just a TV act to impress snow, but has it turned into more? Her going through this had step in life has influenced me to fight for what I love and not be with somebody just because everyone else wants me to. It is my life, my choices.

Most people haven’t ever had someone trying to kill them, though some have. How would you like to be in a small closed in area with 23 other people trying to kill u before you kill them, also fighting against an army of game creators? Doesn’t sound very fun, I sure wouldn’t want to ever do it. Katniss on the other hand did. As anyone else would be, Katniss was petrified. But there was no way out. She had to fight and hope for the best. If anything like the hunger games ever comes to America I hope to have the same bravery that Katniss did. If I am ever nervous to do something I just think of what Katniss did and it always makes me feel better about my decisions.

“As long as you can find yourself, you’ll never starve.” Was a quote that Katniss’ father had told her. I love this quote because it is true, I can relate to it. No matter what part of the book you look in you can always find an inspirational quote. It’s a good book to read, even more than once. Katniss has inspired me ever since I first read The Hunger Games and will continue to influence me every time I have a hard decision to face in my life.
