Have Faith by Bridget - March 2019 Scholarship Essay
As I’m walking down the halls that I will soon never walk again, I glance back to the pimple- faced, awkward kids that used to be me. I smile to myself as I am leading them through their new home-away-from-home, introducing them to what will be their life for the next four years. I think about my own time here, the laughs, the cries, the jokes and teasing, and terrible food that the cafeteria serves. It is a time called high school. A rite of passage for each and every person that comes through those doors and walks down those steps.
I remember the tough times occasionally, the ones that made me not want to get up and walk away from the safety of my own bed. The times where I felt alone, felt different, and felt as if it was the end of the world (ah, the drama of a high schooler). Things always got better however, as long as I made them that way. It was always up to me to change my mindset and change how my life was going, and it always got better.
So many times, I wanted to give up on high school. I remember the one thing that kept me going; two words: have Faith. As I lead those awkward students through the halls, I turn and repeat those two words to them. As bad as things get, just simply “have faith”.
