The Night of and the Morning After by Brianna - January 2016 Scholarship Essay
Every year, people around the world are coming up with their New Year’s resolutions and how they can become a better person. To most the resolution is the same, lose weight, find a job, find true love, and many more. My New Year’s resolution is to become more involved in school activities and sports in the rest of my High School and College career. I believe that students should become more involved in their school, because there are positive outcomes when one begins to involve themselves and devote themselves to their school.
Students who are more involved in school activities and sports tend to be more social, dependent, responsible, and are looked up to by other students to do something beneficial for themselves. I have always been one to look up to another person for all the things that they do and how they are able to manage all things at one time. I have had the privilege because of my own decisions, after joining Softball, to understand that I must be at a certain place at a certain time, and for it to be my responsibility for them to know if I could not make it to a certain practice. Softball and how much fun I had playing it, has given me the idea that I should try out new things and push myself to become more responsible, social, and to be a leader to those in my life.
When people choose their New Year’s resolutions, everyone suggests to start it the moment of the New Year, for many, the night of New Year's is the last night, while the morning after they wake up with new goals and are ready to take on the year. As for right now I am ready to take on new things this year, join new sports, and to also join clubs around school to be more involved in the sports supporting the school as well as academically, but at the same time helping me become a better student.
My New Year’s resolution is to become more school oriented, not only to better myself as a student, but to better myself as a whole person at the same time. Taking the time to improve one’s self ends up sprouting to different levels of a person and groups. So far, I am making myself proud by joining Water Polo, Field Hockey, and soon Softball once again.
