Molding a Better Student by Brianna - September 2015 Scholarship Essay

Becoming a better student is a difficult task. At school, we are given many opportunities to become the student we need to be. There's leadership roles that need to be filled, teachers that constantly push you to do your best, and a constant need for classroom improvement. Not only do I succeed as an outstanding student during school hours, I have also been given the opportunity to excel else where.
Outside of school, I have been given the opportunity to tutor younger kids in many different subjects. I've taken part in teaching math, science, and reading. Using the knowledge I've acquired has given me the tools to help these students to the best of my ability.
This has defiantly made me a better student. It has given me the chance to see the teachers side of school. Learning something for yourself is different than trying to use that knowledge to teach someone else. I believe this has enhanced my learning ability and also my study skills.
Tutoring has also taught me to put others needs before my own. The key to any good student is one that cares about their peers. I can't begin to describe the feeling I get when the person I'm helping finally understands the material they are struggling with. There's a since of pride knowing you've helped another student for the better.
This opportunity is slowly molding me into the best student I can be. I can already tell how much it's changed me in only a few short weeks. There's a lot of things teachers can teach you, but some things you learn by teaching yourself.
