Dinner with Ronald Reagan by Brianna - October 2017 Scholarship Essay
The President of the United States holds the key to success in his very palm. The President is the most respected member of American society, and he certainly holds the most power. One particular President thought to have been the greatest by many is Ronald Reagan. Reagan was a stupendous President, he ended the Cold War, created millions of new jobs via ‘Reaganomics’, voiced American values that people had grown scared to say themselves, and provided amazing tax reform. Reagan was truly and amazing President, and I would like to have dinner with him for a few reasons.
I feel that there is a lot we can learn from Reagan, even today. Reagan brought peace to America. He worked at bringing forth a peaceful environment, and everybody loved him. There is so much violence in America today. With record mass shootings, protests that end in deaths, and the general hatred that people seem to feel for each other, America has become a war zone of sorts. We are so focused on hating each other because we don’t all share the same opinions that we have lost control of our society. Whether it is a matter of politics, or what music people listen to, we cannot seem to wrap our minds around the fact that we are all Americans. We are all citizens of the greatest Nation in the world, but we have forgotten that. Displays of kindness when citizens go to help each other in times of need as seen in Texas with the disaster of Hurricane Harvey and those in Las Vegas with the act of hatred that cost over 50 lives have shown us once again what it truly means to be an American. If only we could get back to times like Reagan’s when people lived in relative peace, then we would see the danger we have brought ourselves to.
This is why I want to have dinner with Ronald Reagan, to get some advice on how to fix the problem America has gotten itself into. It is not a matter of Democrat or Republican, it is a matter of whether or not we are people. I think Reagan would want this country brought back to its previous state of greatness and bring it out of its current state of turmoil.
