Be Involved. by Brianna - April 2016 Scholarship Essay
If you are an upcoming high school student or a current high school student, my advice to you is be involved. Throughout high school, there are an abundant amount of opportunities for you to take, such as clubs, scholarships, summer camps, SAT and ACT tutorials, etc. The best thing to do is get involved in those clubs or organizations, become more aware of what your high school has to offer.
I am a member of National Honors Society, which recognizes high school students, who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. This organization challenges students to develop further in their active involvement in school activities and community service.
I am a member of Interact Club, which gives high school students the chance to make a difference in their community while having fun. This organization develops leadership skills, connect with community leaders, and discover more opportunities to connect with other organizations, such as Rotary, RYLA, and Youth Exchange.
I am a member of Youth for Christ, also known as bible study, which helps young students become more aware of the love of Jesus Christ. This organization allows people young at heart to surrender themselves to God, and live a godly life.
I am in this program called Upward Bound, which is a program at San Jacinto College. It allows students to attend San Jac two Saturday's of the month, and engage in the way college students are taught. It also provides students the opportunities to visit colleges, and figure out what college they plan on attending.
I am also a member of the Academic Decathlon. This is a ten-event scholastic competition for teams of high school students. This is a an organization that requires a lot of studying and time management because you have to learn a lot of material to prepare for the event.
All these are organizations that I am currently in, and there are many more in your high school.
Be involved in your school. Ask your counselor how you can be involved at your school, what programs could you join. These opportunities will benefit you enormously. Achieving high in academics is not all colleges are looking for. They want to see how much you are involved at your school. They want to see your character, which is built on how much time you give to these different organiztaions. Take my advice and see how it will affect you.
