Peer Pressure by Brianna - April 2016 Scholarship Essay
To anyone who's younger than me, I would like to share with you advice on peer pressure. Peer pressure is the influence that you feel from a person or even a group of people ,to do something that you might not have considered doing. Peer pressure often happens because sometimes you don't want to be alone or left out from a group. The peer who is pressuring you could be anyone of the same age range, such as your bestfriend, one of your classmates, the most popular kid in school, someone you admire or even a family member. Sometimes, peer pressure isn't always negative,it can be positive influence which could help you. An example of a negative peer pressure can be that one of you friends would offer you some susbstance of drugs and they'll tell you that it gives you the best feeling ever, and they'll convince you in a good way to take the drug which ends up being a pressure. A positive part of peer pressure would be one of your friends pressuring you to do good in school and good grades which leads into a positive outcome. Peer pressure can be directly, where someone is tell you what to do. Indirect peer pressure is where it's not obvious to you individually, where the pressure is coming from you and you feel like you must do something such as also doing drugs to fit in. If you are in a . Situation where you are being peer pressured, you have to make a decision based on what is right for you. This means that you are in a position where you have to be responsible and sometimes take ownership for how you think and your actions. The best thing to say when you are being peer pressured would be kindly saying "no thank you." Saying no can be hard but it would be the best decision and it will make you feel good that you stood up for yourself. After saying no, explain to your friend or group why you don't want to take part or do what they are doing.
