Overcoming my Challenges by Briana - July 2023 Scholarship Essay

I have had many challenges during my high school years. These challenges have taught me how to overcome and become a better student. My biggest challenge that impacted my grades and socialization was COVID-19. The coronavirus Disease resulted in my biggest failure in grades by not having a much needed face-to-face interaction with my teachers.
COVID-19 impacted my 9th and 10th grade years. Due to mandates and restrictions, I had to adapt to virtual learning. I did not have a live person to physically show me how to solve school work problems. I felt alone with no one to teach me the lessons. Those were really tough years.
COVID also made it difficult to interact with friends. High school is a time to build a social network but because of a pandemic, I missed out on building social skills that should help me through life. When I returned to school we had to wear protective mask that continued to block my social interactions. It was an awkward high school experience.
Moving forward, this failure in my education helped me to rely on my own research rather than waiting for someone to give me the answers. I am a better student because of the challenges I have overcome.
