Studing Effectivly by Briana - January 2014 Scholarship Essay

One of the most effective study methods I've used was to make up a song with the material I was learning. I matched the information to one of my favorite songs and sung it until I could remember everything. Sometimes the song doesn't always fit so I pick a new song.

Another effective study method that has worked for me is a classic; making note cards. Writing a question on one side of a note card and the answer on the other. I would also add a picture if I were studying vocabulary words. With this method, I could quiz myself with the questions and also with the answers.

Although there are several creative study methods that can be used, these two methods have proven to be the most successful for me. They incorporate my love of music and the simple use of flashcards. The use of music as a study method has also been used in a movie called "Bring the Noise". The character was trying to study to become a citizen and his tutor taught him about the government by changing the words to his favorite song to reflect the different branches of government. These creative study methods have been fun and beneficial by allowing me to pass several concepts that I felt were difficult to learn. If they helped me and the guy becoming a U.S. citizen, they can surely help someone else.
