Behind The Curtain by Brevan - August 2018 Scholarship Essay

If I had a popular educational podcast, my podcast would mainly be about and consist of insider opinions, tutors, lessons and facts about all of the functions and behind the scenes work that makes Theatrical productions happen. Productions take a mini army to pull off because these shows are so intricate and taxing, so anyone interested in the theatre field may be interested in this podcast.
The podcast episodes would run on a schedule during the week, consisting of one day per a specific role in the theatre. For example, every Monday would be about acting, or every Tuesday would be about lighting, Wednesday would be about costumes and so on with Sundays off. Listeners would be able to request certain information in certain areas and the podcast would be interactive with the people who tune in. The series would bring in people who actually perform these actions and play these roles in the production so that listeners can get accurate information and real stories and details from firsthand experienced people. In the event that there is a topic someone would like to learn about that is not featured in the podcast then this person can either write or call in and have their question addressed live on the day that would best fit the topic of their question.
Another feature that this podcast series offers is that each Friday there would be a raffle from people who have entered their name via text during the week and whoever is chosen gets 2 tickets to a local theatre production in their area. These tickets would be complete with backstage passes that allow them to meet the people who actually put on and participate in the show. They would have the opportunity to not only ask questions about the area they are interested in but they would also have the chance to actually see the technicians, actors, directors and everyone else participating in action, all while getting front row seats. Following their experience, The next day we would call the winners live on the air for an interview and rundown of their time at the show.
Overall, this podcast would be a great place for interested parties to learn about the theatre, productions and how things work, especially all of the time and effort that goes into putting a production on. This would also be a great chance for people to be able to venture out and go see shows locally and actually be where the magic happens so that the process can be viewed and experienced firsthand. Productions take a tiny, dedicated army to make a show successful due to the intricacy and complexity that the show calls for, so anyone interested in taking a look into the theatre realm might want to tune in to this podcast.
