College is More Than Just Freedom by Brenna - November 2016 Scholarship Essay
College is something that excites me as I have been looking forward to it for a while now. Asking me to pick one thing that I will be thankful for is like asking a parent to pick their favorite child, it’s pretty difficult. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have the opportunity that I will have next year to attend college.
Out of everything, I think I am most thankful for and most looking forward to having the opportunity to expand my learning. Without a college education, I will not be able to go out into the real world and help those in need. I plan to attend a college in order to pursue a degree in Speech Language Pathology. There are people out there in need of help and I intend to do just that, but I am unable to do so without the necessary skills and knowledge. College will be the beginning of the road for me in chasing that dream. I look forward to furthering my education and learning more about this subject that intrigues me. I can’t wait to extend my knowledge further than I can even imagine. I imagine myself exiting college a whole new person filled with knowledge helping me make a difference; a difference I can’t make without the education on how to do so. I am grateful for the opportunity to be able to work for this dream.
When people think of college, they often just think of the freedom and parties; that is a part of college, but there is more to it than just the social aspect. If I wanted freedom and parties, I could just move out and live on my own and throw parties whenever I want. The whole price behind college is the education; that is what you pay so much for. College is all about furthering your education and reaching for your dreams and that is what I am most thankful for.
