Advice for Younger Students by Brenna - April 2016 Scholarship Essay

High school is a confusing, crazy, and interesting experience. When I was younger I always wanted someone to give me words of wisdom on how to survive high school, but I never got that. That’s why I am happy to share advice from my experience. There are multiple things I could tell you, but to sum them up in one sentence it would be: smartly get out of your comfort zone.

Everyone is scared of something, whether it be performing on stage or taking a shot in a game. To really figure out who you are you must step over your fears. For me, I was always afraid to speak my mind, but I got over that by participating in different activities, such as: drama, oral-interpretation, and other student organizations. So, younger students, you have to try out for different clubs, sports, and organizations to figure out what your strengths and weaknesses are. Once you discover these skills you will be able to be whoever you want to be! You have broken out of your comfort zone. When I said smartly, I meant don’t go out and party to try to fit in. Partying is overrated! If you want to go hang out with your friends do it in a safe and smart environment.

So, again, if I could give you any advice it would be to discover who you are and love yourself. Don’t be afraid of going out of your comfort zone to reach something you want, because it is in those moments you are the bravest person to ever live.
