My Favorite Teacher by Brendan - March 2023 Scholarship Essay

The one person that has had a positive impact on my education is my environmental science, teacher, Mr. Guercia. I am a senior at Palm Harbor University High School, and this is the first year I have had him as a teacher. He is a very down to earth person and is easily relatable to the students. He connects well with me, as well as my peers, and really makes a good effort at teaching.

I think he has made a great impact on my learning because of his style of teaching. I am more of a visual learner, and he uses visual activities and videos all the time. He finds a way to make assignments fun. He will have us make colorful booklets that make the information which we have to remember easily understandable and readily available. It is better than writing an essay or doing a generic worksheet any day! He really brings the life out of students in the classroom environment. I think he is the exact kind of teacher that kids need nowadays. They don’t need to be just handed an assignment and told to complete it. They need help along the way, as well as an opportunity for their interest to be piqued. I don’t think I would do well in environmental science without him.
