Finding My Confidence Through Service by Breanna - May 2026 Scholarship Essay

Learning how to connect with others and step into leadership roles has always felt intimidating and challenging for me. I was nervous about getting involved with various campus ministries when I first moved to the University of North Georgia, feeling as if I did not have the confidence or abilities to make an impact on campus. However, I am proud to say that, because of my involvement in the Baptist Collegiate Ministry (BCM) and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), I have gradually become more comfortable stepping outside my comfort zone, building relationships, and making a meaningful impact. Serving on the BCM Freshman and Transfer Team (FATT Team) has opened my eyes to what I can and want to accomplish.

I realized that leadership is about being willing to serve, encourage, and support others, not being perfect or having all the answers at any given moment. By participating in the campus organizations and volunteering at my home church, I have gained confidence in my ability to communicate, mentor, teach, and help others feel welcomed and valued. As I prepare to help teach children at Vacation Bible School (VBS) and to serve as an FCA Huddle Leader at the state Leadership Camp, I am thankful for the experiences that have taught me that growth comes from taking advantage of the opportunities presented to me, even when they feel intimidating. Instead of fearing the next step or leadership experience, I am looking forward to the numerous opportunities to continue serving, grow as a leader, and make a positive impact in my community and on campus.
