Shaped by Education by Breanna - December 2014 Scholarship Essay

Throughout my adolescence, education has been a major part of my life. Over time, I have spent countless hours in classrooms. Education has shaped who I am today in several ways. Education has shaped who I am today by teaching me to be patient with myself and others, to work hard, and to practice.

The first lesson education taught me is patience. When I was learning to read, I learned how to be patient. I was not only becoming literate but I was also learning a valuable lesson for life. I practice patience every day. I practice patience in checkout lines, in traffic, and in countless other places.

Hard work is the second lesson education has taught me. Once I understood my teachers could not be solely responsible for my education, I took it upon myself to actively try to learn the information. I found out that understanding the information required my hard work. I apply the ethic of working hard to every goal I pursue.

Eventually, education taught me that reaching my goals requires practice. Even with patience and hard work, I could not excel without practice. My attempts to skimp out on voluntary home work and keep a satisfactory grade were futile. Once I learned this crucial lesson, I was able to not only fully understand the material but also achieve a sense of accomplishment. When I value the importance of practice, I have found that I can accomplish almost anything.

All in all, education has shaped me into a person who values patience, hard work, and practice. I keep these values in mind when it comes to all aspects of my life. I believe these values are essential parts of a successful lifestyle. Everyone should incorporate these values into their lives.
