Bowie State University offers a business financing class for business majors and as an elective to certain majors such as psychology. A general finance class would be a great idea for a required class because it could help everyone learn to be more financially responsible by learning the importance of financial planning. As a result of better financial planning students would learn to budget their money, so that they would not have to depend on loans that are leading them into debt.

Most students get money and choose to spend it on things they want at the moment, but once something serious arises they stressed out about how they will be able to afford payments. Students like myself do not know the importance of budgeting for school and personal life. This year I decided to start a savings account and putting away a one-third of the money I get as a gift or from working. I realized it is smart to have money saved up in case an unexpected event occurs or I need to pay for something related to school. Overall by making a financial course required for all students, it could help promote better budgeting and lower student loans.
