Advice To Younger Students by Brandy - April 2016 Scholarship Essay

Growing up can be tough but it happens pretty fast, before you know it you will be on your own figuring out life for your own. When I first started high school it was fun and a different environment. Freshman year was the easiest and hardest year of my life. Learning new things and having to acussome to a fast pace life. I wasn't very aware of my education because I was so happy I was finally a step closer to being an adult.
The classes were way harder than I expected, especially math, which was my weakest subject. I never fully paid attention or asked for help which really put me behind others. My teacher was the type of teacher to teach and you would have to catch on and ask questions later. My dad tried to help me with homework which didn't work much because I still failed every test. I really couldn't blame anyone but myself for not paying attention or putting forth the effort like I should and I ended up failing the class.
My lack of determination carried off into the summer, instead of going to summer school and getting "embarrassed" I never told my dad I failed math. I had to retake it which was even more embarrassing because I was in a class with freshman. Later on I decided to finally do summer school because I could never pass the subject and I got all my math completed up until Senior year. I was finally able to spend time in a regular class. I took AP class's throughout high school to show that I was smart enough like everyone else. I thought it would help my gpa since i had to keep retaking math. Unfortunately my gpa isn't up to par but i still don't let it get to me.
My advice to you younger kids is to try your hardest. I know life is difficult and you're excited to move on with life but you have to be motivated. Even if your parents don't look out for you, you still have to make sure you're doing what's right for you. Your whole future rides on what you do while you're still growing up which is tough on us. Stay determined and never give up and it will be worth it in the long run.
