Passion, A Misinterpreted Word by Brandt - July 2019 Scholarship Essay

Passion; viewed by many as a love for a certain item or activity. However, the word ‘passion’ is very similar to the word ‘love’ both are overused. When a word becomes overused, the true weight of its impact is lessened on the ears of its audience. For me, passion is what causes the breath to enter and leave my lungs, my heart to pump blood through my body, and my eyes to glow with hope and creativity.
I feel true passion about my education in Exercise Science. What separates a passionate student from a non-passionate student you ask? The ability to do things that are considered to be monotonous in order to become more knowledgeable in your chosen field. You must ask yourself, does anyone really want to stay up into the dwindling hours of night studying textbooks over the best way to create power through proper exercise prescription? The answer will be ‘no’ for most, but for you it must be ‘yes’. To truly experience passion, you must take joy in accomplishing tasks that others would deem unpleasant. You must be willing to go the extra mile in your studies to prove to yourself that you are deserving of the knowledge you will acquire in this journey.
The road will be difficult, the obstacles monstrous but to experience true passion for what you do every day, now that is something worth living for.
