Jesus - Reservation for Two by Brandon - February 2016 Scholarship Essay
If I could have dinner with any historical figure, I would make a reservation for two with Jesus. No one has turned this world more upside down than Jesus, and as a Christian there is no one more profound in history (and no one I personally find more intriguing). The Man had all of the power in the world. He literally was part God, and yet He chose to live in poverty. He dined with tax collectors, thieves, and prostitutes and in the process made each one of them change their lives for the better. He didn’t use guilt or shame to change people’s lives, but accepted them where they were and showed them the love of God. Just writing this makes me smile and that’s the power of Jesus. So if I had a chance to meet Him face to face here on earth – Yes, I would jump at that opportunity.
If I had the opportunity to have dinner with Jesus, I would make a reservation at a restaurant that had a 7 course meal option. Not to be fancy or impress Jesus, but to extend the dinner as long as possible! I would fill the meal with questions mostly about what His plan for me was in this life and what I could do to further God’s mission, but I would make sure that I also took the time to listen. I would let Him drive the conversation (I mean He is God after all). Taking a voice recorder would be a must as well, just to make sure I didn’t miss any conversation! Overall, I would let Jesus lead the way because isn’t that the way it should be?
I can’t imagine having dinner with Jesus. It would be fun. I would learn so much and I would receive priceless guidance in my life. I don’t know what I would learn or how I would feel during the dinner, but what I do know is that no one would change me more for the better than Jesus, even if we only had an hour or two. So when asked the question who I would have dinner with if given the opportunity, the answer is easy – Jesus, half man, half God, who changed this world forever and could change me for the better even over a dinner conversation.
